Short answer: Not all models have a cambelt - some have a timing chain, so check and make sure first. A chain will generally last longer but should be inspected and changed at the recommended intervals. Fiat recommends a change at 153,000 miles or 9 years - but I would HIGHLY recommend you get the belt changed much earlier at 60,000 miles or 5
With my ZS 120 (K series, 4 cylinder petrol) being over 6 years old and approaching 60,000 miles on what looks like the original cam-belt, I eventually found time to change it. As well as changing the timing belt itself the pulley's, tensioners and water pump should also be changed at the same time as changing the timing belt. Also not 100% to do with your query, but I notice your Megane is a 1.6 16v VVT. Do you get a rattle like noise on start up sometimes. If so it could be the camshaft dephaser pulley.

From what I understand Vw had some cases of cambelts breaking earlier than they should so too be on the safe side they made cambelt changes 5years or 75000miles whichever is sooner. It's also the fact that the coolant Water pump is driven by the cambelt.
In order to tell if your car has a timing belt or a timing chain the first thing you need to do is inspect your engine. Check the side of your engine, and if it has a tinplate or plastic cover, then you’ve got a timing belt. If your engine has neither of those, then it has a timing chain. There are a few exceptions to this rule although
Hold the camshaft pulley and loosen, but not remove, its bolt, so the pulley can rotate on the shaft. Rotate the tensioner anti-clockwise to the end of its stroke. Replace the tensioner and the belt with the new ones from the kit and using tool (1860987000), rotate the tensioner anti-clockwise to the end of its stroke and tighten the nut to 27Nm.

On the Mark V Golf with a 1.4 16V there is no timing belt replacement recommendation - only inspection. I'll be watching to see if VW makes any change to their recommendations. I still remember my 16V Scirocco losing its timing belt at 6yrs with 65,000 miles on it and having to fork out $$$ to replace bent valves.
1. Fit the new tensioning pulley and idlers. 2. Loosen the camshaft pulley by mounting counterhold (1870815000) on the camshaft pulley and loosening the camshaft bolt. 3. Camshaft locking tool (counterhold) (1870836000) is inserted ( Fig 5 ). 4. Fit the timing belt on the crankshaft pulley, starting clockwise.
